CVE-2023-41339  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-918  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade org.geoserver:gs-wms to version 2.22.5, 2.23.2 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Server-side Request Forgery (SSRF) via the sld=<url> parameter in GetMap, GetLegendGraphic, and GetFeatureInfo operations. An attacker can perform a blind unauthenticated Service Side Request Forgery (SSRF) by supplying a malicious URL.

Note:

This is only exploitable if WMS Settings dynamic styling is enabled and Security URL checks are disabled, or if they are enabled and allow file:\\* access. The attacker can use this vulnerability to steal user NetNTLMv2 hashes, which could be relayed or cracked externally to gain further access.

Workaround

This vulnerability can be mitigated by disabling dynamic styling on the affected versions or by enabling URL checks and configuring them to trust specific locations only.
