NewCVE-2026-70599  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-346  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade electron to version 39.8.7, 40.9.1, 41.2.0, 42.0.0-beta.1 or higher.

Overview

electron is a framework which lets you write cross-platform desktop applications using JavaScript, HTML and CSS.

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Origin Validation Error in the setPermissionCheckHandler. An attacker can gain unauthorized access to device permissions by embedding a cross-origin iframe and exploiting origin-based permission logic.

Note: This is only exploitable if the application uses origin-based logic in setPermissionCheckHandler and delegates device permissions to cross-origin iframes.

Workaround

This vulnerability can be mitigated by checking details.securityOrigin instead of requestingOrigin for permission decisions, or by not delegating device permissions to untrusted iframes.
