CWE-1021  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade electron to version 39.8.8, 40.9.1, 41.2.1, 42.0.0-beta.3 or higher.

Overview

electron is a framework which lets you write cross-platform desktop applications using JavaScript, HTML and CSS.

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Improper Restriction of Rendered UI Layers or Frames in the handling of cross-origin iframes, which allows the native autofill popup to be positioned outside the bounds of the iframe and over the embedding page's UI. An attacker can manipulate the placement of the autofill popup by embedding untrusted content in an iframe, potentially enabling clickjacking or spoofing of trusted UI.

Note: This is only exploitable if untrusted content is embedded in iframes within windows that also display trusted UI.

Workaround

This vulnerability can be mitigated by not embedding untrusted content in iframes inside windows that display trusted UI.
