CWE-674  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade kibana to version 8.19.20, 9.4.5 or higher.

Overview

kibana is an open source (Apache Licensed), browser-based analytics and search dashboard for Elasticsearch.

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Uncontrolled Recursion via the custom analysis definition. An attacker can exhaust the thread stack and terminate the affected node by submitting a specially crafted, malformed custom analysis definition that is resolved recursively without a cycle or depth check.

Note: This is only exploitable if the attacker is an authenticated user with low-privileged index creation permissions.
