Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Improper Verification of Cryptographic Signature via the verify_signature function in updater.rs, which does not validate that the version embedded in the signature's trusted comment matches the version announced by the update endpoint. The endpoint response is fetched over TLS but is not itself signed, so an attacker able to serve a manipulated endpoint response can pair an inflated version field with the URL and signature of an older, genuine release, forcing a downgrade to an outdated but validly signed build. The fix reads the version back from the signature's trusted comment and rejects any update whose announced version differs.
