How to fix?

Upgrade october/system to version 3.7.17, 4.2.23 or higher.

Overview

october/system is a System module for October CMS.

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Access Control Bypass in the cms.safe_mode process. An attacker can gain unauthorized access to sensitive database information and impersonate other backend users by chaining method calls in Twig templates to bypass sandbox restrictions and execute raw SQL expressions. This is only exploitable if cms.safe_mode is enabled, a backend user with CMS markup editing access exists who is not intended to be a full administrator, and there is at least one existing superuser account whose session can be impersonated.

Workaround

This vulnerability can be mitigated by restricting CMS markup editing access to fully trusted administrators only.
