CWE-78  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade patool to version 4.0.6 or higher.

Overview

patool is a portable archive file manager

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Command Injection via the shell_quote_nt function in patoolib/util.py, which fails to escape Windows shell metacharacters (such as ^, &, |, <, >, ", !) and percent signs in arguments passed to shell commands on Windows systems. An attacker can supply a malicious archive filename or path containing these metacharacters to inject arbitrary shell commands that execute with the privileges of the invoking user.
