Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling in the decode_unknown_field function. An attacker can cause excessive memory allocation by providing specially crafted serialized protobuf input containing nested unknown fields or arbitrarily sized length-delimited unknown fields. This can lead to process crashes due to memory exhaustion when decoding messages from untrusted sources using code generated with preserve_unknown_fields=true.
