CWE-78  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade SLES:15.1 cifs-utils to version 6.9-5.6.1 or higher.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream cifs-utils package and not the cifs-utils package as distributed by SLES. See How to fix? for SLES:15.1 relevant fixed versions and status.

It was found that cifs-utils' mount.cifs was invoking a shell when requesting the Samba password, which could be used to inject arbitrary commands. An attacker able to invoke mount.cifs with special permission, such as via sudo rules, could use this flaw to escalate their privileges.
