CVE-2022-28737  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-787  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade SLES:15.2 shim to version 15.7-150100.3.35.1 or higher.

NVD Description

Note: Versions mentioned in the description apply only to the upstream shim package and not the shim package as distributed by SLES. See How to fix? for SLES:15.2 relevant fixed versions and status.

There's a possible overflow in handle_image() when shim tries to load and execute crafted EFI executables; The handle_image() function takes into account the SizeOfRawData field from each section to be loaded. An attacker can leverage this to perform out-of-bound writes into memory. Arbitrary code execution is not discarded in such scenario.
