Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Heap-based Buffer Overflow in the DN normalization process when handling a crafted legacy-quoted multivalued Relative Distinguished Name (RDN). An attacker can corrupt heap memory and potentially cause service disruption by sending a malformed DN in an LDAP operation such as search, bind, add, or modify. This is only exploitable if the server does not immediately reject the malformed DN and the heap corruption leads to process instability, which may be more reliably observed when heap debugging is enabled or depending on specific memory allocator activity.
