CWE-329  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

There is no fixed version for 389ds/389-ds-base.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Generation of Predictable IV with CBC Mode due to the use of a static initialization vector in the attribute encryption process. An attacker can infer when two encrypted attribute values are identical by comparing ciphertext blocks if they have privileged read access to the raw database files. This is only exploitable if an attacker obtains access to database files without the corresponding encryption keys, such as through stolen backups.

Workaround

This vulnerability can be mitigated by disabling attribute encryption if not required, or by restricting filesystem access to the LDBM database directory to authorized administrators only.
