CWE-606  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade bind to version 9.18.47, 9.20.21, 9.21.20 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Unchecked Input for Loop Condition in the DNSSEC validation process. An attacker can exhaust system resources by sending a maliciously crafted DNSSEC-validated zone to a resolver, resulting in service disruption for legitimate users. This is only exploitable if the server is configured for DNSSEC validation or if an authoritative server is configured to perform recursive queries.

Workaround

This vulnerability can be mitigated by disabling DNSSEC validation on affected resolvers or configuring the server as authoritative-only if recursive queries are not required. A restart of the service is required for these changes to take effect.
