CVE-2023-5517  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-617  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade bind to version 9.16.48, 9.18.24, 9.19.21 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Reachable Assertion due to the nxdomain-redirect feature being configured and the resolver receiving a PTR query for an RFC 1918 address that would normally result in an authoritative NXDOMAIN response. An attacker can cause the named process to exit prematurely with an assertion failure.

Workaround

This vulnerability can be avoided by disabling the nxdomain-redirect feature.
