Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Allocation of Resources Without Limits or Throttling in the ares_dns_name_parse function due to a lack of limits on the total pointer hops or assembled name length when processing DNS compression pointers. An attacker can cause excessive CPU consumption and stall the single-threaded event loop by sending a specially crafted DNS response containing a long descending pointer chain and multiple resource records that reference the chain.
