Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Buffer Under-read due to the ares__read_line function. An attacker can cause a crash by inserting an embedded NULL character as the first character in a new line in local configuration files such as /etc/resolv.conf, /etc/nsswitch.conf, the HOSTALIASES file.
Note:
It can also affect the /etc/hosts file if using a version prior to 1.27.0.
