CVE-2025-15079  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-297  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade curl to version 8.18.0 or higher.

Overview

curl is a command line tool and library for transferring data with URL syntax, supporting DICT, FILE, FTP, FTPS, GOPHER, GOPHERS, HTTP, HTTPS, IMAP, IMAPS, LDAP, LDAPS, MQTT, POP3, POP3S, RTMP, RTMPS, RTSP, SCP, SFTP, SMB, SMBS, SMTP, SMTPS, TELNET and TFTP. libcurl offers a myriad of powerful features.

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Improper Validation of Certificate with Host Mismatch due to the libssh API fallback to a built-in global known_hosts file if the host was not found in the specified one. An attacker can bypass host authenticity checks by leveraging entries in the global known_hosts file even when a custom known_hosts file is specified.

Note:

This issue affects only for curl built with libssh backend, libssh2 backend is not affected.
