CVE-2024-0853  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-299  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade curl to version 8.6.0 or higher.

Overview

curl is a command line tool and library for transferring data with URL syntax, supporting DICT, FILE, FTP, FTPS, GOPHER, GOPHERS, HTTP, HTTPS, IMAP, IMAPS, LDAP, LDAPS, MQTT, POP3, POP3S, RTMP, RTMPS, RTSP, SCP, SFTP, SMB, SMBS, SMTP, SMTPS, TELNET and TFTP. libcurl offers a myriad of powerful features.

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Improper Check for Certificate Revocation due to improper handling of SSL session IDs when an OCSP stapling test fails. An attacker can bypass OCSP verification and establish a secure connection using a previously cached session ID, which should have been invalidated.

Notes: The project maintainer recommend the following to avoid this vulnerability.

  1. Apply the patch to your local version

  2. Do not use curl built to use OpenSSL

  3. Do not allow TLS 1.2 for your transfers
