CVE-2024-2004  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-290  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade curl to version 8.7.0 or higher.

Overview

curl is a command line tool and library for transferring data with URL syntax, supporting DICT, FILE, FTP, FTPS, GOPHER, GOPHERS, HTTP, HTTPS, IMAP, IMAPS, LDAP, LDAPS, MQTT, POP3, POP3S, RTMP, RTMPS, RTSP, SCP, SFTP, SMB, SMBS, SMTP, SMTPS, TELNET and TFTP. libcurl offers a myriad of powerful features.

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Authentication Bypass by Spoofing due to an error in the logic for removing protocols. This flaw allows a command that explicitly disables all protocols to still perform requests using the default set of protocols. This issue is triggered when the set of selected protocols disables the entire set of available protocols, which is a command with no practical use and, thus, unlikely to be encountered in real situations.

Note

Inspect any scripts that construct curl commands with --proto options to ensure at least one allowed protocol.
