CVE-2024-2379  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-295  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade curl to version 8.7.0 or higher.

Overview

curl is a command line tool and library for transferring data with URL syntax, supporting DICT, FILE, FTP, FTPS, GOPHER, GOPHERS, HTTP, HTTPS, IMAP, IMAPS, LDAP, LDAPS, MQTT, POP3, POP3S, RTMP, RTMPS, RTSP, SCP, SFTP, SMB, SMBS, SMTP, SMTPS, TELNET and TFTP. libcurl offers a myriad of powerful features.

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Improper Certificate Validation due to an error path that is triggered when an unknown or bad cipher or curve is specified. This error path inadvertently skips the certificate verification process for a QUIC connection, resulting in the connection being deemed secure despite potential certificate issues.

Note

To trigger this vulnerability, it is required that the used wolfSSL library was built with the OPENSSL_COMPATIBLE_DEFAULTS symbol set, which is not set for the recommended configure --enable-curl builds.
