CVE-2024-2466  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-295  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade curl to version 8.7.0 or higher.

Overview

curl is a command line tool and library for transferring data with URL syntax, supporting DICT, FILE, FTP, FTPS, GOPHER, GOPHERS, HTTP, HTTPS, IMAP, IMAPS, LDAP, LDAPS, MQTT, POP3, POP3S, RTMP, RTMPS, RTSP, SCP, SFTP, SMB, SMBS, SMTP, SMTPS, TELNET and TFTP. libcurl offers a myriad of powerful features.

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Improper Certificate Validation due to the improper validation of server certificates for TLS connections to hosts specified by IP addresses when using mbedTLS. This results in the application skipping the certificate verification process, exposing users to potential man-in-the-middle attacks by accepting unverified certificates.

Notes

  1. This flaw is relevant for curl and libcurl built to use mbedTLS and affects all uses of TLS protocols.

  2. This flaw also affects the curl command line tool.
