CWE-416  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade dnsdist to version 1.9.9 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Use After Free when DNSdist is configured to provide DoH via the nghttp2 provider, an attacker can cause a crash of DNSdist by crafting a DoH exchange that triggers an illegal memory access (double-free).

Note:

This is only exploitable if DNSdist is configured to use the nghttp2 provider as the backend for DoH services.

Workaround

This vulnerability can be avoided temporarily before upgrading by switching to the h2o provider.
