Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Expired Pointer Dereference in the RDPEAR authentication-redirection process. An attacker can execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service by enticing a user to connect to a malicious server that manipulates pointer reference IDs, resulting in heap use-after-free or double-free conditions.
This vulnerability can be mitigated by avoiding connections to untrusted RDP servers and using firewall rules to restrict clients to trusted servers. Removing the package can also eliminate the attack vector, though this may impact dependent applications.
