CVE-2024-45779  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-190  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

A fix was pushed into the master branch but not yet published.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Integer Overflow or Wraparound via the BFS parser. An attacker can leak sensitive data or cause a crash by supplying a specially crafted or corrupted BFS filesystem image.

Note:

This is only exploitable if the attacker can trick a user into running grub2 with the malicious BFS file system image.

Workaround

This vulnerability can be mitigated by not running grub2 in an untrusted environment, specifically with a BFS file system image.
