CVE-2023-4692  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-122  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade grub2 to version 2.02-beta3 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Heap-based Buffer Overflow in the fs/ntfs.c file. An attacker can execute unsigned code and bypass secure boot protection by presenting a specially crafted NTFS filesystem image. This leads to heap metadata corruption in both grub and potentially the UEFI firmware.

Note: This is only exploitable if the attacker has access to present an NTFS filesystem image.
