Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Stack-based Buffer Overflow in the mangle_to_hex_lower and mangle_to_hex_upper functions. An attacker can cause a crash or potentially execute arbitrary code by supplying a specially crafted rule file or by using the -j or -k rule options with password candidates of 128 or more characters, exploiting a bounds check that does not account for the 2x expansion during hexadecimal conversion.
