CWE-252  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade inetutils to version 2.5 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Unchecked Return Value. During the operation of certain procedures such as ftpd, rcp, rlogin, rsh, rshd, and uucpd, an unauthorized person may obtain escalated privileges due to the absence of checks for set*id() family function return values. This is only exploitable if, for example, the setuid system call fails as a process attempts to drop privileges, allowing a regular user to take control of the process.
