CWE-277  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade linux-pam/linux-pam to version 1.6.0 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Improper Authorization via the openat() system call in the protect_dir() function. An attacker can block a user's login attempt by placing a FIFO in a directory that is expected to be a polyinstantiated directory when pam_namespace is configured. This is only exploitable if the system is configured with a non-default mount namespace setup and the /tmp directory is mounted as a polyinstantiated directory.
