CVE-2023-46049  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-476  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade llvm to version 18.1.0-rc1 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to NULL Pointer Dereference due to the parseOneMetadata function via a crafted pdflatex.fmt file (or perhaps a crafted .o file) to llvm-lto. An attacker can cause the application to crash by exploiting this vulnerability.

Note:

This is disputed because the relationship between pdflatex.fmt and any LLVM language front end is not explained, and because a crash of the llvm-lto application should be categorized as a usability problem.
