CWE-122  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade neutrinolabs/xrdp to version 0.10.6 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Heap-based Buffer Overflow in the EGFX channel implementation due to insufficient validation of client-controlled size parameters. An attacker can cause a crash or potentially execute arbitrary code by sending specially crafted PDUs to the server. This is only exploitable if the attacker can establish a connection to the service, either pre- or post-authentication.

Workaround

This vulnerability can be mitigated by running the service as a non-privileged user to limit the impact of successful exploitation.
