CWE-476  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade nginx to version 1.28.3, 1.29.7 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to NULL Pointer Dereference in the ngx_mail_auth_http_module process when CRAM-MD5 or APOP authentication is enabled and the authentication server allows retry by returning the Auth-Wait response header. An attacker can cause worker processes to terminate by sending specially crafted requests. This is only exploitable if both CRAM-MD5 or APOP authentication is enabled and the authentication server returns the Auth-Wait response header.
