CVE-2024-31079  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-121  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade nginx to version 1.26.1 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Stack-based Buffer Overflow due to the handling of undisclosed HTTP/3 requests during the connection draining process. An attacker can cause the termination of worker processes or other potential impacts by timing the request specifically during this phase.

Note:

This is only exploitable if NGINX is configured to use the HTTP/3 QUIC module.
