CWE-158  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade nodejs/node to version 22.23.4, 24.22.1, 26.12.1 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Improper Neutralization of Null Byte or NUL Character via the callback- and promise-based dns.resolve APIs in lib/internal/dns/callback_resolver.js and lib/internal/dns/promises.js. An attacker can make an application resolve an unintended hostname by supplying a name containing an embedded NUL; c-ares treats the name as a C string, so example.com\0.trusted.corp is truncated to example.com, and the resolver returns records for that hostname.
