CWE-295  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade OpenPrinting/cups to version 2.4.17 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Improper Certificate Validation in the cupsd when used with reusable Authorization: Local ... token. An attacker can gain elevated privileges and execute arbitrary commands as root by coercing the service to authenticate to an attacker-controlled Internet Printing Protocol (IPP) service, resulting in the creation of a persistent printer queue that overwrites arbitrary files with root privileges.
