Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Stack-based Buffer Overflow in the Debian metadata parsing when handling specially crafted SHA384 or SHA512 checksum tags. An attacker can cause memory corruption and disrupt service availability by supplying malicious repository metadata.
This vulnerability can be mitigated by ensuring that only trusted and cryptographically signed Debian repository metadata is processed, and by avoiding ingestion of Packages files from untrusted or unverified sources.
