Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Stack-based Buffer Overflow in the rpcbaddrlist process. An attacker can cause the rpcinfo client to crash by supplying specially crafted address information from a malicious or compromised rpcbind server when a user or administrator runs rpcinfo -l against it. This is only exploitable if a user or administrator actively queries a malicious or compromised rpcbind endpoint using rpcinfo -l.

Workaround

This vulnerability can be mitigated by avoiding the use of the rpcinfo -l command against untrusted, attacker-controlled, or compromised rpcbind hosts and restricting the use of the rpcinfo utility to trusted internal endpoints or secure test environments only.
