How to fix?

Upgrade spiderlabs/modsecurity to version 2.9.11 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Improper Validation of Specified Quantity in Input in the SecParseXmlIntoArgs process when handling requests with the application/xml content type containing at least one empty XML tag. An attacker can cause a segmentation fault and disrupt service availability by sending specially crafted XML payloads.

Note:

This is only exploitable if SecParseXmlIntoArgs is set to On or OnlyArgs.

Workaround

This vulnerability can be mitigated by setting SecParseXmlIntoArgs to Off.
