CVE-2026-12610  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-825  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

There is no fixed version for sssd.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Expired Pointer Dereference in the sssd_pam process when handling YubiKey authentication. An attacker can cause the process to crash and disrupt user access by manipulating smartcard contents during an active authentication attempt. This is only exploitable if the attacker is able to control the smartcard or YubiKey contents during an ongoing authentication session.

Workaround

This vulnerability can be mitigated by configuring the sssd systemd service to automatically restart on failure. This ensures authentication remains available even if an attacker triggers the crash.
