NewCVE-2025-64344  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-121  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade suricata to version 8.0.2 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Stack-based Buffer Overflow via the LuaPushStringBuffer function. An attacker can cause a stack overflow by passing a large buffer to a Lua script, potentially leading to denial of service.

Note: This is only exploitable if Lua rules or output scripts are enabled and large buffers are processed.

Workaround

This vulnerability can be mitigated by disabling Lua rules and output scripts, or by setting limits such as stream.depth.reassembly and HTTP response body limits (response-body-limit) to less than half the stack size.
