CVE-2023-53517  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-120  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade torvalds/linux to version 5.10.181, 5.15.113, 6.1.30, 6.3.4 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Buffer Overflow via the tipc_link_proto_rcv process. An attacker can cause heap corruption, read adjacent kernel heap memory, and potentially execute arbitrary code or crash the system by sending specially crafted TIPC ACTIVATE messages with a very small MTU value to the UDP bearer.

Note: The Linux kernel project assigns a CVE to every bug fix it ships, whether or not the bug has been shown to be exploitable. This advisory was generated from that process and has not been individually assessed for exploitability. See the kernel's CVE process documentation: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/Documentation/process/cve.rst
