CVE-2024-42083  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-416  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade torvalds/linux to version 6.9.8 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Open Redirect in the ionic_run_xdp process. An attacker can cause kernel memory corruption and system crash by sending specially crafted jumbo Ethernet frames to a vulnerable system with XDP enabled. This is only exploitable if the system is configured with XDP and receives jumbo frames exceeding the standard MTU.

Note: The Linux kernel project assigns a CVE to every bug fix it ships, whether or not the bug has been shown to be exploitable. This advisory was generated from that process and has not been individually assessed for exploitability. See the kernel's CVE process documentation: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/Documentation/process/cve.rst
