CVE-2024-45005  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-670  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade torvalds/linux to version 6.6.48, 6.10.7 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Use of Externally-Controlled Reference to a Resource in Another Sphere in the kvm_s390_get_gisa_desc function when the origin is uninitialized and gisa is disabled via kernel parameter or sysfs attribute. An attacker can cause a host kernel validity intercept and potentially disrupt virtual machine operations by starting a new KVM guest under these conditions. This is only exploitable if the gisa feature is explicitly disabled using the kernel parameter "kvm.use_gisa=0" or by setting the sysfs attribute to N.

Note: The Linux kernel project assigns a CVE to every bug fix it ships, whether or not the bug has been shown to be exploitable. This advisory was generated from that process and has not been individually assessed for exploitability. See the kernel's CVE process documentation: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/Documentation/process/cve.rst
