CWE-416  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade torvalds/linux to version 5.15.174, 6.1.117, 6.6.61, 6.11.8 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Use After Free in the smb3_preauth_hash_rsp process. An attacker can achieve remote code execution, leak sensitive kernel memory, and cause a system crash by sending specially crafted SMB2 NEGOTIATE or SESSION_SETUP packets to the ksmbd service on TCP port 445, exploiting a race condition that leads to use of freed memory.

Note: The Linux kernel project assigns a CVE to every bug fix it ships, whether or not the bug has been shown to be exploitable. This advisory was generated from that process and has not been individually assessed for exploitability. See the kernel's CVE process documentation: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/Documentation/process/cve.rst
