CWE-125  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade torvalds/linux to version 6.6.117, 6.12.58, 6.17.8 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Out-of-bounds Read in the drm/mediatek process. An attacker can cause out-of-bounds DMA reads and denial of service by creating an AFBC framebuffer with specific modifiers and committing it using atomic operations. This can result in freed and reallocated kernel memory being decoded and rendered to the display, leading to garbled output and potential kernel panics.

Note: The Linux kernel project assigns a CVE to every bug fix it ships, whether or not the bug has been shown to be exploitable. This advisory was generated from that process and has not been individually assessed for exploitability. See the kernel's CVE process documentation: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/Documentation/process/cve.rst
