CWE-416  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade torvalds/linux to version 3.3, 3.17, 4.15, 6.6.160, 6.12.94, 6.18.23, 6.19.13 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Use After Free due to improper reference counting in the xfrm_input_resume process. An attacker can trigger a use-after-free condition by racing the teardown of a network device with the processing of asynchronous XFRM state, potentially leading to kernel memory disclosure, data corruption, or system crash.

Note: The Linux kernel project assigns a CVE to every bug fix it ships, whether or not the bug has been shown to be exploitable. This advisory was generated from that process and has not been individually assessed for exploitability. See the kernel's CVE process documentation: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/Documentation/process/cve.rst
