CWE-400  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade torvalds/linux to version 5.10.259, 5.15.210, 6.1.176, 6.6.143, 6.12.94, 6.18.36, 7.0.12 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Buffer Overflow in the tap_get_user_xdp process. An attacker can exhaust host memory and cause a denial of service by repeatedly submitting specially crafted frames from a guest virtual machine, leading to memory leaks in the host kernel.

Note: The Linux kernel project assigns a CVE to every bug fix it ships, whether or not the bug has been shown to be exploitable. This advisory was generated from that process and has not been individually assessed for exploitability. See the kernel's CVE process documentation: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/Documentation/process/cve.rst
