CWE-119  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade torvalds/linux to version 6.18.34, 7.0.11 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Buffer Overflow in the igc_fpe_init_smd_frame process. An attacker can cause kernel memory corruption, privilege escalation, arbitrary kernel memory disclosure, heap corruption, arbitrary code execution, or denial of service by sending specially crafted Ethernet SMD-V frames to a host with FPE/pMAC enabled, which triggers the reuse of stale buffer types in the TX completion path.

Note: The Linux kernel project assigns a CVE to every bug fix it ships, whether or not the bug has been shown to be exploitable. This advisory was generated from that process and has not been individually assessed for exploitability. See the kernel's CVE process documentation: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/Documentation/process/cve.rst
