CVE-2026-74576  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-674  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade torvalds/linux to version 6.12.103, 6.18.44, 7.1.8 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Buffer Overflow through the __free_slab process. An attacker can cause a kernel stack overflow and crash the system by triggering unbounded recursion during memory deallocation operations. This can be achieved by provoking the kernel to free specific slab objects in a way that forms a cyclic dependency, leading to exhaustion of the kernel task stack.

Note: The Linux kernel project assigns a CVE to every bug fix it ships, whether or not the bug has been shown to be exploitable. This advisory was generated from that process and has not been individually assessed for exploitability. See the kernel's CVE process documentation: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/Documentation/process/cve.rst
