CWE-787  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade torvalds/linux to version 6.1.188, 6.6.157, 6.12.109, 6.18.50, 7.2.4 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Out-of-bounds Write in the bloom_map_alloc process. An attacker can achieve local privilege escalation, kernel memory corruption, and potential kernel panic by creating a specially crafted bloom filter map with a large max_entries value, leading to under-allocation and out-of-bounds memory access through the set_bit and test_bit operations. This is only exploitable if the attacker has CAP_BPF privileges on a 32-bit x86 kernel.

Note: The Linux kernel project assigns a CVE to every bug fix it ships, whether or not the bug has been shown to be exploitable. This advisory was generated from that process and has not been individually assessed for exploitability. See the kernel's CVE process documentation: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/Documentation/process/cve.rst
