CVE-2026-98039  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-123  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade torvalds/linux to version 6.12.111, 6.18.53, 7.2.7 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Write-what-where Condition through improper handling of the map_kptr_match_type process. An attacker can achieve arbitrary kernel read and write access by storing a plain allocation or a referenced kernel pointer into a __percpu_kptr map field, which can then be misinterpreted by consumers, potentially leading to relocation into invalid addresses or bypassing destructors.

Note: The Linux kernel project assigns a CVE to every bug fix it ships, whether or not the bug has been shown to be exploitable. This advisory was generated from that process and has not been individually assessed for exploitability. See the kernel's CVE process documentation: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/Documentation/process/cve.rst
